Your FNP preceptors, secured across every lifespan rotation

FNP Preceptor is an independent search service for family nurse practitioner students at any university. We look for possible preceptors and primary care practicum sites across the lifespan using requirements the student confirms. Your program decides whether each clinician and setting are eligible, and we cannot guarantee approval or outcomes.

The FNP problem

Why is an FNP preceptor so hard to find?

FNP primary care spans the lifespan, but programs organize courses and objectives differently. A search must account for the current population objectives, approved settings, patient mix, geography, timing, and clinician scope. The number of preceptors depends on that program-specific plan.

  • Population objectives and approved settings vary by program.
  • Clinician availability varies by location, course, and setting.
  • Every proposed match remains subject to program approval.
  • Placement responsibilities vary by program and course, so confirm the current process with your school.
  • Confirm the current documentation and agreement process with your school.
  • Our independent role is to search and organize possible matches.
The lifespan

Primary care objectives across the lifespan

PediatricsWell-child and acute peds visits at a pediatric or family clinic.
AdultPrimary care of adults in family or internal medicine.
Women's healthPrenatal, family planning, and gyn hours, often with a CNM.
GerontologyOlder-adult primary care across the continuum.

These are planning examples, not a universal four-part course structure. Confirm your program's current objectives, settings, and approval rules before requesting a search.

How your placement works

One team for the whole lifespan search

Share the current course documents and remaining objectives you confirmed with your program. We independently search for possible clinicians and primary care sites whose scope may fit, organize available candidate information, and submit the option for program review. We cannot guarantee a match or approval.

  1. Tell us your program. Share your school, city, course, timeline, and confirmed objectives.
  2. We search across the lifespan. We look for possible clinicians and primary care settings.
  3. The program reviews. Your program decides whether each preceptor and site are eligible.
  4. Plan from the decision. Begin only after the program approves the proposed placement.
Clinical hours

How many clinical hours does an FNP program require?

The 2022 NTF education standards recommend at least 750 direct patient care hours per NP population track. ANCC and AANPCB certification sources separately use at least 500 faculty-supervised clinical hours. These are national benchmarks, not a named school's exact requirement. Confirm the current total and distribution with your program.

Confirm with your program whether simulation or precepted telehealth may count. FNP graduates may pursue FNP-C certification through AANPCB or FNP-BC certification through ANCC. Confirm current certification and licensure rules with the relevant certifier and board of nursing.

Pricing

What does FNP preceptor placement cost?

Independent NP preceptor placement runs roughly 1,000 to 2,500 dollars per rotation across the market, and because FNP needs several rotations, we plan and price the full lifespan up front. You pay only once each preceptor and site are confirmed. Our fee covers sourcing, eligibility verification, and the affiliation legwork, never a payment to the preceptor, who is a volunteer.

Scope the request first: pricing depends on the confirmed objectives, geography, timeline, setting, and clinician criteria. We cannot promise that a search will prevent delay or result in program approval.

Questions

Good to know before you start

How many clinical hours does an FNP program require?

The 2022 NTF education standards recommend at least 750 direct patient care hours per NP population track. ANCC and AANPCB certification sources separately use at least 500 faculty-supervised clinical hours. Confirm your program's current total and distribution.

What patient populations must FNP clinical rotations cover?

FNP is family and individual primary care across the lifespan. Programs may organize pediatric, adult, older adult, reproductive health, and other objectives differently. Confirm the current course plan with your program.

Who can serve as an FNP preceptor?

A possible preceptor may be an appropriately prepared nurse practitioner or physician whose scope, patient panel, and setting fit the current objectives. Other clinicians may qualify when program rules allow. Your program decides whether every clinician and site are eligible.

Do you work with my university's FNP program?

Students at any university may request our independent search support. We organize possible matches around requirements the student confirms, while the program keeps every approval decision. We do not represent or act for a school.

Are you affiliated with a university?

No. We help FNP students meet their program's requirements; we do not act for any school.
